Berbicara mengenai K3 (Keselamatan dan Kesehatan Kerja), ada beberapa hal atau prinsip yang juga tidak dapat lepas daripadanya dan harus terpenuhi. Salah satunya yakni prinsip ergonomi yang merupakan suatu cabang ilmu mengenai sifat, kemampuan, dan keterbatasan manusia dalam menciptakan lingkungan kerja yang efektif, nyaman, aman, sehat dan efisien.

Safety management atau manajemen keselamatan dan keamanan kerja tidak cukup untuk benar-benar mengatasi resiko kecelakaan di tempat kerja. Sebab kenyataannya, masih banyak kasus-kasus kecelakaan kerja yang terjadi pada suatu perusahaan yang pada dasarnya secara administratif telah lulus (comply) audit sistem manajemen K3. Hal ini dapat terjadi karena perhatian terhadap faktor ergonomi belum sepenuhnya diterapkan atau bahkan terabaikan.
Beberapa kondisi yang seolah-olah luput dari mekanisme dan sistem audit K3, salah satunya yakni keluhan yang menyangkut penurunan kemampuan kerja (work capability) akibat kelainan sistem otot-rangka (musculoskeletal disorders). Bahkan beberapa data yang ada mengungkapkan bahwa biaya kompensasi akibat keluhan ini menempati rangking pertama diantara bentuk-bentuk kecelakaan kerja lainnya.
Pelatihan Kompetensi Ergonomi
Karena prinsipnya mempelajari tentang interaksi antara manusia dengan elemen-elemen di sekitarnya, maka bisa dikatakan bahwa kompetensi ergonomi sangat penting untuk dimiliki setiap perangkat atau porsenil kerja. Kompetensi ini berbicara tentang kemampuan personil kerja dalam mengaplikasikan pengetahuan ergonomi dan prinsipnya dalam upaya mengendalikan resiko K3.
Kompetensi ini pada dasarnya terfokus pada aspek-aspek perancangan dan perencanaan kerja, yang dapat meliputi tata ruang, alur kerja, skill, anthropometri, dan faktor-faktor lingkungan kerja. Untuk memperoleh seluruh aspek dalam kompetensi ini, dibutuhkan suatu jenis pelatihan mengenai implementasi ergonomi di lingkungan kerja.
